Stone Lions

Sometimes I wish my photos had a much more interesting back-story.  Then again, a good photo can create its own story.  In this case, I’ll let you use your imaginations first.

(Go ahead, I’ll wait.)

OK- now for the real story.  These lions do not stand guard at the emperor’s palace.  They do not frighten evil spirits away from a temple or holy place.  They do not come to life after dark.  They did not aid Mulan in her quest.  To my knowledge they are not ancient relics from the 9th century.  These lions welcome visitors to a bistro in the area surrounding West Lake.
