In planning for this last trip, my brother encouraged me to formalize a list of all the places I wanted to shoot so that we could prioritize them and create our itinerary.  As I pulled together my "must have" shots, I found that many were closer geographically  than I had realized, but I also found that I simply could not get to all of them in a week.

Rather than giving up and losing track of these other locations, I put together a "Lifetime Shot List," or effectively, my bucket list.

My Bucket List

Event and commercial photographers commonly use shot lists with their clients to ensure that they come away with all the shots they are looking for.  My lifetime shot list does the same thing by identifying all the places I'd like to go and photograph in my lifetime.

Delicate Arch has been on my bucket list for close to 15 years, and photographing it at sunset (above) was everything I hoped it would be.  Just because I checked it off my list doesn't mean I won't return.  In fact, I hope to see it many more times in different seasons and different conditions.  It's a beautiful location.

At the same time, I added some locations just a couple of weeks ago.  I'm constantly looking for new inspiration and when I find it, I add it to the list.

My bucket list itself is nothing fancy -- I use Apple's "Reminders" app so that I can access my list virtually anywhere and add to it.  If you're into pen and paper, Excel, Android, etc., or if you just have a really good memory, do what works for you.  Whatever you choose, I encourage you to make a list and get there to start shooting!

Thanks for looking,
